What is Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)?
Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is also known in some regions as ‘corporate citizenship’ which acts as a model for profit-oriented organizations to self-regulate their operations in moral sense as part of their obligation or accountability towards the society and environment around them. Through this corporate culture, it induces a sense of accountability to both company shareholder and stakeholder so be able to be more sensitive with their development and its repercussions towards the public society and the environmental eco-system so be able to play their roles effectively in good faith.
CSR in today’s world
Due to the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic which has taken the global communities by surprise, taking many lives and devastated the economy and wellbeing of the people. Numerous efforts have been taken not only by the governments but also NGOs and the communities to control the spread of this pandemic which has taken millions of lives across the globe and continuously fighting it as well as to recover the economy due to the lockdown and Movement Control Order which badly affected both the public and private sectors daily business activities.
Despite those ongoing efforts, business owners and employees are still striving to adapt and stay relevant in the market but somehow the environment is no longer conducive especially for those businesses which involve non-essential goods classified by the government. The uncertainty of public health condition does have direct impact to the market condition and potential. Continuous uncertainty will increase risk for business which leads to business foreclosure and contribute to the increasing rate of unemployment which underpin current economic issue that eventually affect the socio-economy of the people and stability of a nation. Due to these unprecedented events, CSR may no longer relevant at this juncture due the fact that all business communities are now require assistance more than ever in order sustain their operations and provide employment which benefits the public society.
BUSINESS MORAL OBLIGATION (BMO)
Moral obligation is a duty which one owes and ought to perform, not legally bound to fulfil but a sense of moral responsibility of individual towards the society and the environment. It is timely now for all business societies to come forward collectively to form ‘Unity’ in order to help each other in going through this unprecedented situation which already affected their businesses and livelihoods across the board from individual sole proprietor right up to the corporate. His Excellency has introduced ‘Business Moral Obligation’ (BMO) model which had successfully brought all parties together especially the business community to create their own solution to overcome their business issues and move forward with less dependency on the government.

His Excellency has identified this Business Moral Obligation as a unique BMO Program to reach out to the business community at different levels based on its complexity and its long term recovery plan which involves three major groups; The Government, Business Sectors and Academic as part of its ongoing studies to formulate new academic approach for the future workforce. This BMO Program complements the ‘Business Alliance Platform’ to introduce cross-pollination between business communities so be able to join and share their knowledge and experiences in reaching out to each other and going through the next level of the “New World Business Communities” to create opportunities rather than waiting for one to come.
BUSINESS ALLIANCE PLATFORM
Through the BMO Program, Fortified Resources (M) Sdn. Bhd. introduced BUSINESS ALLIANCE PLATFORM as a virtual business modulator to form strategic partnership among business community to guide them in a constructive approach in going through this pandemic. The objective is to reach out to those business owners or ex-business owners who were badly affected by the Movement Control Order (MCO) so be able to collectively gather relevant information through this Business Alliance Platform to support each other by sharing ideas, advices or even create alternative business solution with innovation to enable them to adapt with the current situation and potentially benefit both shareholders and stakeholders once the MCO is lift up. This Business Alliance Platform provides a basis of business unification for business owners and does neither represent association nor business entity but rather as ‘Business Intelligence’ to support business community to sustain their businesses in a long run.
This platform is open to business owners who wish to volunteer as part of their moral obligations to share experience and advice to those who are in dire need. It also provides the basic constructive and practical approach which was used by the Chinese community for decades to support each other within their own circle of community without relying to the rulers. This platform also acts as a ‘Business Modulator’ for participants to channel their knowledge and ideas among the participants and further qualify as ‘Business Alliance’ to connect and support each other in any of their current and future business endeavor that will ultimately benefit all parties involved.
